Donna Juana 22: Lil’ Waynextraviganza

My show airs every Sunday night at 10pm on Washington Heights Free Radio. This week’s episode is an All Lil’ Wayne special, like I’ve made for Jonathan Richman, Books on Tape and On-U Records (Next up: Deee-Lite. Sound Good?)
I first started liking Lil’ Wayne with Go DJ but its Fireman that made him my favorite blapper (something about that part of the video where he presents his 16mm art film…) Now I’m certainly no expert on him (like I am with J.R.), but an i-Tunes search for ‘Lil Wayne’ revealed this:
and I think that’s something.
I’ve already written about how I feel about Lil’ Wayne’s music for our video treatment. Plus there’s our similar likes: fashion, Miami Vice, tennis. We’re both allergic to wintertime. But really, I think I admire Lil’ Wayne because he embodies the Ball Deep spirit. At my age — actually, he’s two months younger — Lil’ Wayne hasn’t just found success as an artist, he’s managed to build something. Its like a family.
OK…Enjoy the Wextraviganza! (MPFREE)
PLAYLIST: New Orleans Classic Grew Up a Screw Up (w/ Titi Boy) Shooter Ignition Remix Freestyle (w/ Sqad Up) My Daddy We Brothas Everything Will Be Fine (ft Reel) 1st Key (w/ Daddy) Black Republicans (w/ Juelz Santana) Dirt Off Your Shoulder Freestyle Can't No Nigga (ft Reel) Tomorrow (ft Reel) Get Your Freak On Freestyle Fresh and Clean Freestyle Crazy Rocker The Champions (w/ Sqad Up)
SOURCES:
Almost all of this stuff came from the Wayne’s World, Sqad Up and Drought series of mixtapes. You can find them here.
Lil’ Wayne’s got two new shits coming out this year. Tha Carter 3 and Da Drought 3. The latter’s being posted on the Young Money site for Legal-Free. (also, a great video there: The Pack! “It’s a good game”!)
The blog Still Listen To Gangsta Music is an excellent source for Lil Wayne news. Like backwards messages in his songs?!
Finally, if you haven’t heard it, please check out Dedication 2. This last year, its been as important to me as anything.

Heaven 17 - This is Mine (Filmix) Thrashing Doves - Jesus on the Payroll (Street Groove) Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark - Almost (7″ mix)
NOTE 1: With the time slot change and my recent resolution to be less mysterious, I thought I’d write an introduction to new listeners. I was about half-way through an idea on “imagining an alternative canon” and then thought Yeeeaaah, sometimes…
I just play whatever’s interesting to me each week - hopefully in a coherent and fun way. Like right now I’m spending most of my time working on a movie that takes place in the tropics, 1987. You can probably hear that in a lot of recent shows. Anywayz I hope you enjoy!
NOTE 2: Ok, bicycle shorts on girls. But what’s The Summer Trend for boys? Windbreakers without shirts. (For formal occasions, a tank underneath.) Its undeniable. That’s why I’m exercising so much.

It’s all gonna be worth the wait
Last Sunday, Lev recorded a radio show but decided it wasn’t good enough to air. So WHFR replayed Donna Juana: Episode 3, which is a real fun one if you missed it.
Similarly, Halloween Face 06 will be posted next Wednesday 03/14, a week later than schedule. Shitty, we know. But that’s the price of quality.
And there is good news. We have it on very good authority that bicycle shorts on girls will be The Trend of the Summer. (A lot of you girls checking this site are innovators and early-adopters with good thighs. Please don’t sleep on this way-worthy trend.)
So yes, things suck now. But there’s lots to look forward to…

Teen Ho Dance Party

NOTE: There actually weren’t any teen ho’s there Friday. I’m just thinking of a party in Lancaster this Summer where there were. And they were all up on me.
More on my dream-come-true experience last Friday:
1. Unfortunately I don’t have any pictures. Maybe that’s for the best. I think I’d belong on 60 Minutes posting photos of teens. But it was exactly like this.
2. I can’t overstate how great the Cxmbr1dge Sch00l is. If god-forbid I ever live near Boston, I’ll definitely send my kids there. Everyone’s so smart, mature, articulate and friendly. Maybe I’m imagining it, but the palpable aura of fear I felt in High School just doesn’t seem to be there.
Like:
3. Boys danced with boys! And girls danced with girls (in not-slutty ways)!
4. My favorite part of the night (ok, besides when Brian broke out his moves for the kids and they chanted his name):
STUDENT: This is…um…you don’t happen to have the Fast and Furious 3 soundtrack - Teriyaki Boys?
ME: Um…actually…
5. Promise? Not huge like I expected. Hey Ya, though, still works like magic. Vans and We Fly High: bigtime sing alongs. And you just can’t underestimate Akon’s hugeness. I played three songs, and that was like bare-minimum.
6. I got a request for Ratatat. So that’s that.
7. And I dunno. Those kids are just great. Plus Shakespeare…man…
Thanks again Brian. Kids, good luck with Macbeth.

P.S. So this isn’t a dead-end of a post internet-wise: DJ Afro’s mix over at NYremezcla is real good.
