Knowing me (Barack Obama), Knowing you (America) …. A-HA!!

Was stuck inside pulling 20 hour editing sessions all last week and eventually ran out of Gilmore Girls and Miami Vice DVDs, so I ventured into the weird world of listening to people talk. This is what I found…
1. “British radio comedy” is not one of the things I ever expected to say I like. But Knowing Me, Knowing You - the fictional talk show from the 90’s where Steve Coogan developed the Alan Partridge character before taking him to TV and then transforming him into Tony Wilson for 24 Hour Party People - is hilarious. Download NONSTOP LAFFS.
2. Talking to people these last few days about Obama (trying to convince people to agree with my politics is another thing I never expected to do) I’ve felt like mentioning his style or the stories he tells is considered cheating. Everyone agrees he’s better at that than Hillary, but the feeling is that anything non-policy he says is irrelevant to what he’ll “really do”. But for me, that is what got me excited about him in the first place. Maybe it’s because I’m an artist, but I put I value on images and stories. I believe that the way you envision your world provides the framework for everything you do - gives your actions direction and continuity, and allows other people to follow you. (Tony Wilson with the Hacienda is a great example. To be covered in a later post.)
So the best I can do if you’re still deciding about tomorrow is recommend you listen to chapter two of Audacity of Hope, read by Barack Obama (starting about 20 minutes into this mpfree). It’s amazing titled “Our Constitution”.
